Quality in Family Practice is a project of the Ontario College of Family Physicians in collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
Improving the quality of health care is a major objective of an accountable, public health care system. Family medicine is the cornerstone of the health care system and family practices play a key role in providing safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, responsive and comprehensive primary health care. Family practices are also undergoing a transformation into group practices and interdisciplinary teams in Ontario. The development and testing of a voluntary quality assessment programme was proposed and funded as a first step in a process that would faciltiate continuous quality improvement (CQI) of family practices in Ontario.
The Quality in Family Practice project was funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health & Long Term Care through the Primary Health Care Transition Fund.
This module provides a broad overview of the Quality in Family Practice Project, including definitions of quality; the quality improvement process; the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle; the Quality Assessment Tool; and how to get started.
This module demonstrates how to use the Quality in family practice Book of Tools to assess the needs in your office using flu season as an example. Explore some of the items you will want to consider for this time of year.
The purpose of this module is to help you think about staff and patient safety in your workplace and help you prepare for the Changes to Bill 168 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act that came into effect in June 2010 and require that every workplace comply with the changes.
This module will help you think about any changes and activities your clinic may need to take to comply with the Act. It will also give you some basic strategies to assess and diffuse potential violent episodes that can happen in any patient care setting.
The Quality in Family Practice Book of Tools is a comprehensive book of practice management and clinical care indicators for improving quality in primary care/family practice settings in Ontario, Canada.
