Promotion Using Social Media

Hello,

My name is Cailin MacMillan and I am a public health nurse with the Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit. At our most recent 18-Month committee meeting we discussed the use of  social media to promote the eNDDS and 18- month visit as well as other HBHC and Child Health related topics.

Does anyone have any experience with what has and has not worked for their organization in the past? Currently our use of social media use is minimal so we are a blank slate!

Thank you,

Cailin MacMillan

  • Hi Cailin --

Glad to hear about your interest in using social media to promote the 18-month visit! Are you looking to use social media to reach parents? Or are you trying to reach other healthcare professionals in your area? Have you identified the outcomes you're hoping for in using social media?

On our side of things, we're getting ready to do some focused promotion of the machealth 18-month courses to healthcare professionals. If you're looking to do the same, we're just finalizing a promotional toolkit which we could share with you as well. It will have some stock tweets and Facebook posts, as well as some images. If that would be helpful, please let me know!

We were hoping to target parents with social media but I would love to see the toolkit you are creating as we are also working to increase uptake among physicians!

I know some PHUs have a Facebook page where they post information about parenting and child health, and answer questions. As an example, Halton has a 'HaltonParents' page run by PH. I know there are others, but off the top of my head, not sure exactly which ones. Hope that helps!
